MacBook Pro Guide

The MacBook Pro Apple’s solution for those who want to work on the go and expect higher performance than devices like a MacBook Air. However, the relatively high prices prohibit most users from simply „slamming“. In this short guide you will learn how to enter MacBook Pro find that suits your claim and which advantages and disadvantages are generally available.

Three ways for that MacBook Pro
The latest variant of the MacBook Pro was introduced in June 2017, since then the device is also available in stores. In general, the notebooks are divided into three variants: MacBook Pros with 13.3-inch diagonal and with 13.3 and 15.4 inches diagonal including a touch bar with OLED display. The 15.4-inch option does not exist without that touch bar.

First, you should decide which display size you need. 13.3 inches are obviously smaller and lighter, but you also have less desktop space. The resolution also increases slightly with the larger model, but almost nothing changes at the pixel density. If you travel frequently and do not necessarily use the extra space on the display, you should be better served with the smaller version.

A look under the hood
The smallest MacBook Pro offers between 128 GB and 1 TB of flash memory, the top model doubles the values. If in doubt, it is generally advisable to buy a little too much rather than too little storage space. For complex work (image and video editing, sound editing, CAD applications, 3D modeling) also CPU and GPU speed play a major role. In the 15.4-inch version, you get a much faster processor, there are also up to 16 GB of RAM (instead of 8 GB). Are Office, Internet, Facebook & Co. Their primary uses, you have to put these upgrades but no money on the table – because you would not notice the difference.

Attention: connections
For the new MacBook Pro Apple has set the red pen: Among other things, the classic USB-A port has been deleted to make the device thinner for it. Besides, there is no HDMI connection. Although you can upgrade these options via USB-C, this will then result in juggling with various adapters. Therefore, check in advance whether you can connect your peripherals really problem-free or whether in addition to the already high prices also costs for adapters are added.

Sensitive natures may also interfere with the fan: even in idle mode, this is easily audible, so do not enjoy complete peace. Just the 15.4-inch model with integrated Radeon Pro graphics unit can be quite loud under load. Work primarily in absolute silence, so you should think twice about the purchase.

Touch bar – useful or not?
The Touch Bar consists of a length-extended OLED display. You can save various functions depending on the application. This bar is comparable with context-sensitive F-keys. Applications that do not explicitly support the Touch Bar are assigned a few standard keys. Also part of the Touch Bar is a fingerprint sensor (such as Touch ID in the iPhone), which allows you to unlock the MacBook Pro without a long password. Whether the Touch Bar is worth the extra cost, if you fluctuate between the two 13.3-inch devices, you have to decide for yourself.

Conclusion: high quality, but …
No question: Even the new MacBook Pro is immaculately processed, in addition there are excellent input devices including a giant touchpad. The Touch Bar is innovative, although the added value for many users may not yet be 100%. If you can come to terms with the connection shortage, it depends in the end on the price – because it has it all.
