Cognac Advisor

Cognac and Champagne in France are inextricably linked. Because here is the production site of an original cognac. On the hills, which run through the picturesque landscape, beautiful vines grow. They are the basis for the end product, which matures in many years, sometimes even decades.

In Germany people like to talk about brandy, and most of these varieties have nothing in common with the noble brand cognac to do. Only he produced in the southwest of France cognac may call itself that. Used are noble grapes, the first to a White winemature and become popular in further manufacturing processes and a long maturation period cognac develop. Thus, it becomes clear that this is a protected name that protects the area of origin. For this reason there is no German or English cognac , at most, are good brandies. Nevertheless, the name is used in a modified form in many countries of the world, such as the African Konyagi. Of course, this is not a French one cognac is.

Cognac has a fascinating history!

The 3rd century is described as the birth of cognac. Emperor Probus granted the Gauls the right to make their own wine. An incisive experience at that time, because with it the first grapevines were created. Then it became silent for many centuries until, on the advice of Wilhelm X in the 12th century, a new, much larger wine-growing area was created. The province of Poitou was chosen specifically for this purpose. The wines from the region quickly gained recognition and were now exported to Scandinavia, England and Holland in the middle ages of the 13th century. Especially through shipping, the special wine products from the Charente area were shipped to distant countries. The French quickly learned from this need for their wine and developed a filigree business sense for their products.

The city of Cognac was now known throughout Europe. A wine capital that attracts wine connoisseurs and converts the wishes of customers into new cognac varieties. In the 16th century, people spoke of the famous wines of Champagne. Nevertheless, a hurdle developed that had to overcome the winemakers. The wine matured with little alcohol suffered during the long crossing, the quality dropped. There had to be found other ways. After the Dutch successfully burnt the wine, the French also used this process and developed their wonderful brandies with the famous name Cognac.

Traditional production methods determine the taste of cognac

The procedure known from that time has been preserved to this day. Organic grapes are grown from the entire Cognac region. In the first step, an 8% wine is produced, which is then processed in a pot still to high-proof cognac. The special feature is the double distillation, in which the alcohol content increases up to 60%. Ultimately, it matures in large wooden barrels over many years, develops its fine taste of smoke or vanilla. The best varieties are stored here, while the cognac loses about 1.5% of its original 60% alcohol content every year. Only at the end does it have its full-bodied taste, characterized by soft nuances – just a good cognac.

So Bowen Cognac is a good choice as a gift. The Claude Chatelier XO Extra Old in the gift box comes from the Haue Chabasse. What makes this cognac? It enchants with a delicate floral aroma reminiscent of the flower Iris. Likewise also touch of violets convinces the gourmet. In addition, this taste determines a combination of different dried fruitand nuts. For this reason, he is gladly sent as a gift to good friends and business partners.
