Berry Press Guide

Information about berry presses

Smoothies are one of the biggest and most successful trends in the diet of many people. Various fruits and vegetables, often even with peel and seeds, are put into a blender and made into a drink. Considering the fact that fruit peels are often very bitter, possibly even pesticide treated, and that the kernels of many fruits are even poisonous, it is at least questionable if every smoothie, especially by a novice in this field, is really so tasty and healthy, as you might think. A classic and definitely safer alternative is to squeeze the pure juice from fruits. This is berry presses, often juicers or juicerscalled, available. Since the variety of models is difficult to survey, it is all the more important to be clear about the strengths and weaknesses of the respective types of berry presses.

Mechanical berry presses

The best known Beer Press is the citrus hand press. This is suitable for juicing lemons and oranges. The halved fruit is pressed onto the elevation and with a simultaneous twisting action, the pulp is broken at the corrugated surface and the juice drains into the lower part, which acts as a drip tray. However, this type is the most unpopular and unwieldy, as it requires a lot of strength and ultimately still relatively much juice remains in the fruits. At the same time it is only suitable for medium-sized citrus fruits. Another type of berry press is one that is best known as a wine press. Grapes contain a lot of juice, but are small and there is also a relatively large amount of waste in their processing. Today’s wine presses are based on the ancient method, in which the grapes are crushed as a whole fruit. These berry presses are built similar to a barrel and the berries are crushed with a stamp that is pressed down with a lever. The remnants remain pressed together under the punch, while the juice can drain down. A variation of this is the screw press whose punch is screwed down by turning two levers. The last type of mechanical berry press is equal to one meat grinderbuilt up. The fruits are placed in the opening and caught by a spiral, which is rotated by means of a crank. Inside, the fruit is pressed against the walls by the spiral and pressed against a sieve at the front, which separates the juice from the pulp. This guy also requires a lot of strength and above all a lot of stamina. The advantage is that even very hard fruits such as apples can be juiced very effectively.

Electric berry presses

The last and most modern type is the electric one juicer, For smaller quantities are centrifugal juicer, in which the content by a rotational movement of a fine gratergrated inside and the leaking juice is thrown outwards into a collecting container. Another form is the steam press, where hot steam bursts the plant cells and leaches the juice out. However, steam presses are more suitable for large quantities of fruit in the order of several kilograms. Electric juice presses do little work and especially centrifugal presses offer a high yield, however, the quality of the juice is comparatively low, since in both types a large part of the ingredients is destroyed.

Recommended models

When it comes to quality, mechanical juicers are preferable. Only for further processing high-yield, electric juice presses are better, since the majority of the ingredients is lost anyway. A high quality centrifugal juicer is the Philips HR1869 / 01 and as Steam Juiceris called Homestyle Juice Extractor. Recommended wine presses are the model of Grillplanet, as well as the set of Iago with three different sized presses. Good spindle presses are the 10 liter stainless steel screw press from Dema. The robust workmanship made of high quality stainless steel should be emphasized here, which, however, has an effect on the price. A cheap alternative is the press Premitutto Press Inox Ecovip eggplant vegetables. In the construction of a meat grinder is the Kruger 94075 fruit and Beer Press to recommend.
